Goal # 1
My Goals
The shoots of our social and emotional growth rise up from roots that are safely and securely connected and intertwined within a nurturing foundation. The goals I have identified and explored for this graduating project, examine the environmental conditions and growing practices needed in order for this development to flourish and thrive.
'To share with parents, family members, caregivers and educators, the understanding that safe, caring relationships and environments are essential for social and emotional learning (SEL) to take place.'
In the context of this goal, SEL is understood as developing the competencies to identify and regulate ones' emotions, thinking and behaviors, to solve problems and to get along with and care about others.'
To highlight the significance of adult self-awareness and self-management/self-regulation considering that parents, family members, caregivers and educators play a critical role in a child's social and emotional development.'
'To share an understanding of ways to support adults (parents, family members, caregivers and educators) in making a shift in how they interpret childrens' experiences and responses.
From a place of curiosity and aligning with Berger's (2016) notion of thinking beyond the expected 'in moments of not knowing', my goal is then to support adults in reconsidering the child’s behaviors as a need for connection and safety and as a message of stress rather than misbehavior.'
